I barely believe this about The TD5 transmission coolant hoses.

Because my wife is ALWAYS out in our second car, I don't want the car off road for more than it takes to swap the pipes over.

In addition every post I have seen on getting the pipes reconditioned has highlighted how expensive it is, and also the connectors are unobtanium.

I thought about getting some second hand hoses and having them reconditioned but in the end decide to bite the bullet.

I cannot see how one could get a better result than with OEM landrover hoses. My originals are now 18 years old and not leaking but I am a bit paranoid about being out in the desert with no auto transmission fluid.

BTW the freight is enormous because the volume of the packages is enormous and freight rates go on either weight or volume whichever is bigger. Volume is measured at the largest point and because of the bends etc these dimensions are big. That is why Mario does not stock them.

When I made that suggestion I was thinking more having your own ends fitted to a new length of hose. Unless you know the ends are buggered. OEM is obviously the best method provided you don't have to take out a 2nd or 3rd mortgage or flog a couple of Kidneys or wait 20 years for it's arrival..[bigrolf]

I blew one a few years ago near Emerald.

I think it was Pirtek or Hydraulink made a new one up in hours far cheaper than getting the OEM hose.

$500 sounds crazy

if I remember rightly Emerald Cars had a second one made up for spares it was so cheap

I would try MR auto at Redcliffe they ship anywhere,and are very good,know their stuff.

Ah well its refreshing to be criticised for paying too much.

I can recall being called a tightwad for finding a viscous fan bearing that was far cheaper than the then crazy prices asked for the bearing .($141 AFAIR)

I do note the bearings are much cheaper now but mine is still going strong. (SKF wheel bearing with slightly different (better) grease formulation.

Wasnt the problem with the old ones a lack of bead to retain the crimped hose?
Can you feel a bead at all on these?

I need to do something before they release themselves when I least expect it.

When ours blew outside Forster NSW the local transmission shop made up new hose, did the filter replacement service and total from memory $300.

Central Coast Landrover rang this morning that the hoses were in.
Pretty good service .

So how much did you pay for accommodation , how many days lost,?
You were lucky it happened at Forster. Half way across the Bight would be a different matter.
I have always had NRMA premium for this but it still is a PITA as it was when my fuel manifold went on the GRR . I bet I have spent more time in Kununurra than most.
