Wiring route for reversing camera.

My reverse camera screen is a standalone unit so this is not an issue.

The screen is a stand alone screen, I see no need to have the camera working if I am not reversing.
Not going to the head unit. The screen will go where I think the sun roof switches sit.

I used a wireless camera (mounted in place of a number plate light) using power from the reversing lights at the back and the for the screen which I mounted where the sunroof switch panel would be in the overhead consol (exactly where you said OP), I took the power from the auto dimming rearview mirror which has a disable function which gets power when reverse is selected.

No need to run any wires from the back to the front but I think the autodim rearview mirror is only fitted in HSE's, the wiring may still be there on others with standard rearview mirror.

That's about what I did. I have the screen in front of the low range operation sticker at the front of the centre consul.

Originally I wanted my monitor up where the blank sunroof switch panel is but it soon became clear that the choice of mounting positions was dictated by the supplied cable lengths. My camera is on the rear door and the cable run is under the carpet which would work for a camera in the rear bar. My monitor is forward of the hi/lo selector.

I've done a few cameras over the years. I always wire the camera power via a changeover switch. On one side I put the reverse light feed, the other side I put ignition switched positive. The middle goes to the screen. This way you can have the camera come on when in reverse only or flick the switch and have it on when ever you want. I do similar with my two way radio but use switched and unswitched positive.

Apologies for the hijack.

I am currently installing a new head unit and am having trouble connecting the Reverse In wire to trigger the camera on the display. I managed the rest of the wiring (I think...) but this bit is beyond my non-existent skills in the department. Where would one most easily tap into the tail lights from the center console position of the head unit? And do I just cut the appropriate wire and splice the wire running from the HU at that point?

I've looked at the diagrams on Rave but this is no help to me.

Via RAVE: look for the green and yellow(tracer) wire coming off fuse F25(15amp), out the back of the fuse box.
Brake pedal switch operates of this fuse too(so F25 is also your brake light fuse too!). The brake switch wire is Green and Orange(tracer), so be sure if you choose this you make the clear distinction between yellow and orange tracers on the green wires back there.

Possibly easier(maybe not, depends on wire slackness) also back there is Header 294 near firewall behind fuse box. best describes as a few inches above the accelerator pedal.
It's a 20(or so) connector where the power from many sources is taken to BCU.
On this connector, you should find primarily green/brown, purple, purple/blue, brown and brown/yellow wires in and out of it.
Look for the green and brown wires, should be for of them close together. Use the green/brown wire closest to the edge/corner of the plug.
If you're not 100% certain, search RAVE for Header(or connector) 0294 in the electrical library, and it will show you a photo of it's location and a rundown of the wires and positions.

I found the elusive green/brown wire and spliced into it. Success!

Now, the reverse camera already fitted on the car seems to be tapped straight into the reverse lights at the rear, so I need to rewire them to a constant power supply to be able to trigger it at will from the head unit interface... Off I go trawling AULRO...

I connected the rear camera directly to the reversing light, so the camera was only powered when the reversing light came on, when I did one a while back.
Our current Polaris unit is different because it is always powered and the two rear cameras work all the time.
Horses for courses, I guess.
