No downside engine wise other than being illegal as you're tampering with the emissions control system.
As to whether anyone ever notices, its highly unlikely.

Just do it, your engine will thank you, and depedning on engine km, get a new inlet manifold gasket and give the manifold a thorough clean internally.
I think you'll be shocked at the buildup.
Mine only had around 115,000km when the EGR was removed and buildup internally was pretty thick, it took a bit of effort to get it all nice and clean.

Not sure if you have the cat or not but if you do get the down pipe without the cat and you will get a nice turbo whistle at low revs. That with the egr delete will help things breath a little easier

One thing I've noted is that the aftermarket down pipes are only 60mm not 63.5mm/2.5" as the factory pipe is.

remove the manifold and clean it up while you're at it add the silicon hoses as well if not already fitted.

dont remove the EGR cooler it can be repurposed in situe

Ok thanks everyone. Ill probably end up removing the manifold and giving it a clean aswell. Ill be doing a bit of work as I also need to remove exhaust manifold as I have the awesome warped issue. So going to do everything at once

Also what do you need to do with the vacuum tube from the EGR once disconnected?

Better still, just replace the factory cat converter with a good quality high flow unit. Pretty much achieve the same flow as a straight through pipe, while still being emission compliant and helping the environment impact. Better than most of the aftermarket decat pipes as you retain the larger pipe ID.

Block it off. Many different ways to do it but I think the easiest is follow it back up until you get to the white plastic t-piece, remove that and replace with a straight joiner.
