TD5 crankshaft seal... stop leaking, you carn't!

Ok, so I've exhausted a few options here but still at a loss...

let's assume I put the seal in correctly, done the bolt up tight enough, the rubber on the DAYCO pulley is intact...

how else could it be leaking oil??

History of the front crankshaft and pulley: Over chrissie the old pulley **** itself so I replaced with DAYCO (including bolt and oil seal - Corteco - all from Mario)

I might not have done the bolt up tight enough after this and it came undone a few weeks ago. I tried doing the bolt up again, but leak was evident...

Bought a new oil seal, cleaned everything and did up again. Still leaking...

    so here we are...

I am wondering if by cleaning, I cleaned out some sort of sealant grease from the back of the pulley? if the crankshaft or pulley flange is worn?

My next thing I will be doing is trying loctite (515? - the strawberry jam, flange sealant stuff that stays wet/pliable) in the back of the pulley to try stop oil migration from the inner edge of the pulley/crankshaft mating surfaces

    all tips welcome

    TIA

I have heard of the crankshaft wearing, the symptom was that the pulley kept coming loose. Hope it's not the case for you.
    Cheers tt

Ouch, that is the exact symptom I am experiencing... as well as leaking

Worn crank could mean a groove worn by the seal. That's unlikely to be the case as the only symptom would be oil leakage, not a loosening of the balancer.
It could also be interpreted as a stretched or otherwise damaged thread, more likely.
What milage and balancer history does the motor have?
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

The balancer has bugger all kms on it, replaced bolt at the same time as well as seal, replaced Christmas and haven’t driven much bc rona.

Car has 280k, but is running well, not blowing smoke, not going through oil, no roughness to speak of generally. It’s possible I didn’t do it up tight enough.

    Events to date:

Replaced at chrissie was doing well no leaking.

    Came loose recently

Did back up but it was leaking so replaced seal

    Still leaking

My next moves (feel free to critique):

Check thread with endoscope cam as per your suggestion (bolt looks fine)

Replace seal again, though I will leave it a touch prouder this time; use flange sealant (515) where the crankshaft butts/mates to pulley, hope for the best🤞

If that fails I will think about speedy sleeve for balancer

After that I’m out of ideas...

If you use a speedie sleeve on the crank snout I'd suggest you thoroughly degrease the wear mark from the seal and fill it with an epoxy metal filler then file smooth before installing the sleeve.

I've had one on the 350 for years with no probs after doing this.

    cheers, DL

Cheers, i was thinking the easiest solution is to measure the crank and seal take the pulley to a shop to do.

That would be my last ditch effort though.

I want to see if replacing the seal and flange sealant works.

The crankshaft itself doesn’t appear to be worn, but I’m not experienced enough to know really

It does however appear to be worn inside the pulley at the crank/pulley mating surfaces
