    Tyre idea for 255/55/r18? Nitto Grappler Extreme?

    Hi all.
    I'm looking for a set of tyres for my D2a. It is sitting on 255/55/r18 rims and I just want to stick with this size. My main use is for daily driving around Sydney, and occasionally towing a boat ~3T.

    Wondering if anyone had Nitto Terra Grappler AT G2 Extreme? How good are they to compare with BF Goodrich KO2 or other AT tyres?

    I have the Nittos on my RRS and they are great - that price of $287 is a bit much as mine were $195 at Bob Jane but that was 2 years ago and mine were the larger 265/60R18.

    Are you really, really set on that size?

    265/60-18 gives quite a bit more cush, loses nothing in steering response and directional stability, and I don't tow but noticed bugger all drop off in acceleration.
    It's a much more common size, used on a lot of utes like the SR5 Hilux and wagons such as the Pajero with most all tyre manufacturers supporting it and so pricing is pretty good.
    I paid around $235/tyre twelve months ago for Falken Wildpeak AT3W's

    I looked at 265 60 r18 already, but they are 5% increase in speed which I will have to muck around with speed correction, correct? And how do you do speed correction with a D2 in case your tyres are bigger?

    Speedo correction is easy but a touch exxy with a Hunterdi pulse ratio converter.

    Fitted a C6100-4 speedo correction unit

    Tread looks quite extreme if you don't off road. I can't comment on tyre size. Again no experience but if you like nitto what about the terra Grappler? Bit more road biased by looks of it?

    The OP is looking at the Nitto Terra Grappler AT G2 (the extreme is the sellers description - it is not in the name of the tyre). As mentioned I have had these on my RRS for a couple of years in 265/60R18 and they perform Ok offroad due to the mild tread pattern and for a cheap tyre go quite well on road. They are quiet and wear quite well. I have covered 45,000km on mine and they are less than half worn. They are not LT but do have the correct load rating so for what the OP has said his use will be they will be fine.

    And FWIW Nitto are a Toyo performance brand sold exclusively through Bob Jane so are good tyres.

    Much like Falken and Dunlop Japan are to the rubber giant Sumitomo
