Td5 fuel pump noise... Sound right to you?

    Hello all,

Still trying to get this thing going.. charged the battery last night. Charged to over 14v but is dripping V's fairly fast.. putting it through the bleed process atm and just swapped the relays out of my manual because I changed them around the other night not realising the yellow under Bonner relays have different codes.. not sure if this matters...
Fuel pump makes a strange ticking noise during the purge cycle..

Are you sure the pump is running ? been a while since i had a D2 but i distinctly remember being able to hear the humm from the drivers door when turning on the ignition. Mine was that loud it got referred to as killer wasps , a copy from the Toyota add at the time.

Thanks for the reply. I can hear something but no I'm not 100% that it sounds right. When I cranked the engine the other night, diesel spewed out the fuel cooler inlet, so I think it's working.

I remember hearing of a trick some used and that was to hit the bottom of the fuel tank with a rubber mallet to make the fuel pump fire up , i never had to try it , but did hear it had worked for at least 1 person i spoke with.

    Just a thought...

Tash that right give them a good bang with the hammer and it'll normally get a bit more out of it.. I had to get around in a vn like that for awhile until it finally died completely.

There are cases when the pump is running only on LP, a simple trick to see that is here: Disco 2 - Check Td5 fuel pump HP | LandyZone - Land Rover Forum

Thanks sierrafery.. I've only just started to learn diagnosing electrics.. do you test the fuse with the ignition set to stage 2 or with the car running?

Better with engine running if it starts or with ignition on 2 you have to move fast cos it cuts out

Awesome. Yeah it's running now. Would running the purge cycle be the go if it wasn't?
