Discovery 2 shock absorbers ACE non-ACE , airbag suspension ?

Hi, a query on the different genuine shocks for different discovery 2 variants.

each variant has a different part number for the shock absorber - With / without ACE , with / without self levelling.

are they significantly different ? What’s the difference?

could I run a shock for ACE on a non-ACE vehicle?

    looking at genuine only.

I don’t think some aftermarket options make the distinction between variants.

    thanks in advance.

The air bag vs coil spring damper valving will be totally different, the spring characteristics are very, very different.
Air bags have a softer initial rate but are strongly progressive in nature vs coils.

At a guess the ACE dampers may be 'softer' in low speed bump valving as the anti roll compliance is so much stiffer than a passive system.

Thanks rick130, perhaps I won’t try airbag spec shockers on a spring vehicle.

Aftermarket shocks are often to suit all disco 2 varieties, I guess they must have a ‘general’ valve setting.
