It's been very difficult at the moment. Work during the week and either busy on the weekend or the weather is no good to be able to do it. I'm also quite hesitant about finding out if the motor is cactus or not! But I guess it has to be done. I will keep the thread updated.

When I had my pump failure the bolt was still loctited in but the drive in tbe gear abd shaft were stripped, got a nrw pum if anyone wants it

Geez we are all waiting with bated breath and wishin and a hopin that it is OK.

I will have to replace my sump gasket soon so will check the bolt. Any one know the correct loctite number and primer to use?
I used a new bolt last time.

It's been a miserable old day here in Melbourne. Raining and cold. I have a new bolt to put in with some sort of loctite on it. But I'll probably put some more on it to make sure it definitely doesn't come out. I also bought some Permatex 82180 ULTRA BLACK to apply on parts of the sump gasket.

Ok..., so I managed to do a few things on it yesterday. I gave the sump a clean as it was full of oil sludge and dirt on the outside. This probably took me an hour and a half as it was really bad. At least if it leaks now I'll see where it comes from! I cleaned all the old gasket goo from the engine block ready for it to be fitted back up.

I took the old oil pump bolt out which was held in by about 1or 2 threads
The old bolt looks like it has been threaded as well. I'll take a picture of it later. The new one was slowly screwed in while I hoped for the best. And it actually went in nicely. And that's as far as I could get for the day.

Two things I did find in the sump though was a small part of the plastic chain tensioner. And a small gouge inside the sump. I don't know what the gouge in the sump could be from. This has me a little concerned. 20200913_160504.jpg20200913_160335.jpg20200913_160357.jpg

243 would be fine, just make sure the threads are scrupulously clean.

UPDATE...

So it's been awhile since I've been able to do anything. I managed to get the sump on about 2 weekends ago and bolt it all up. After that I ran in to a bit of a problem. The guy from Toorak Tractor tightened the oil filter that tight I couldn't get it off. I ended up butchering it so I bought an oil filter remover which looks like pliers and has sharp teeth looking things to dig into it. Finally came off. First and only time I let a mechanic do an oil change on my disco.

Once I put the new filters on and filled it with oil I disconnected the red plug off the ECU so I could prime everything up without the car starting. I then said a prayer or two while I crossed my fingers and turned it over . The oil light finally went out and there wasn't any metal banging noises. I reconnected the ECU plug and said another couple of prayers and hoped for the best again.

I turned the ignition on and cranked it!
BANG.....it started straight away and roared into life.
The engine sounded normal. I couldn't believe it. I was listening for any little sounds that sounded different. I could hear what sounded like a slight exhaust leak from somewhere. I hesitantly took it for a drive around the block only using light throttle. I was quite edgy at this stage. I started to get some throttle and boost into it but there was a very large turbo whooshing sound. This had me concerned a little.

I thought maybe the turbo was damaged. I got it back home and switched it off. Had a look for any tell tale signs. I checked all the intercooler hoses and they were fine. I checked the back exhaust manifold nuts and it was loose. So I think it was leaking air on boost out of there. I have since tightened it up but haven't gone back out for another drive. Maybe just a bad coincidence it happened at the same time as the oil pump bolt.

So this coming weekend I'll test drive it again and check for any oil leaks. I'm hoping everything will be ok. Will keep you updated.
