    Heated Windscreen Replacement

    Had a strange one today.

My windscreen is getting replaced through insurance ($100 excess only) and the company checked the VIN number and ordered the OEM windscreen on my 2004 D2, all normal.
After waiting 2 weeks for the screen to arrive from over east, I got a call said it has arrived broken, now I have to wait another 2 weeks. They also said they can order another heated windscreen, or they have a regular un-heated one in stock in WA.
    Some back story:
The screen has been replace 2 years ago. The company broke both extern A-pillars (replaced under warrantee). also bent/warped the plenum fascia (which has since cracked fully in two) because the bonnet was not removed for install. Also they took 2 attempts to "seal" the windscreen, I had some water ingress for a few weeks and was not very happy. Suffice to say I will not going back.

To my knowledge the previous 2 screens were not heated (I also can't find a button inside the car to turn on the heating?), but the plugs for the headed screen to plug into are present under the fascia (between bonnet and windscreen).

I am a bit confused whether:
A - The previous 2 windscreens weren't Heated (but should have been) and I just have not noticed the heating function inside the car (maybe it is automatic on the climate control?).
B - All D2's have the heated windscreen plugs under the fascia as part of the standard wiring loom.

BUT According to the VIN number the car has a heated windscreen.
I'm not going to say no to a free heated windscreen. I am also going to be clear that if they don't install the new one properly (ie. break any other plastic bits from not properly following install instructions) they will be replacing.

Can anyone help shed some light?

They all have the plugs, my 02 one does anyway.
I doubt whether any Oz ones have the heated screen.
I have seen reports they are a mixed blessing as you can see the wires when driving into the sun.

Hi I had My genuine screen ,both A Pillars covers and plenum changed by Whyatts in Geraldton all Under insurance as I was not having a non gen screen fitted and I know the plastic bits would break.
My screen is not heated ..2003 D2a..I am very happy with work done...Yes its a drive but worth it!!!
Any screens I have had done before from Novus or Obriens I have always had problems so I was insistent to have genuine fitted through my insurance...The only issue is you have to pay first and send insurance receipt and then they pay you back..I am with Shannons

    Thanks for the feedback guys,

Apparently the VIN number only compatible windscreens, not the actual required windscreen.

I went in to see the repairer and it the non-heated version is fine and will get that done this week.

    Heated Screen

Know my TD5 has the plugs, but if I fitted a heated screen would it work or would some other mod be required, such as, fitting switchgear? I do need a new screen for RWC

If/when fitted it should automatically turn on with the front window demister/defroster button on your HVAC controls. AFAIK there isn't a seperate button.

Heated windscreens if fitted are controlled by a switch in the aux switch panel, usually above the rear demist switch.

Mine came fitted with one as standard so had the switch. My brother in laws one did not, however when his windscreen was replaced under insurance with the heated one it was plugged in under the facia/scuttle panel and after finding him a switch at a wreckers and fitting his heated windscreen was go.
