    Silicon Intercooler Pipes

Nearly, well did, make the mistake of ordering a set of TDi pipes for the TD5 - thankfully got a refund - but in looking at getting a set of pipes there are two distinct sets, one of three pipes and one with an addiotional small pipe making four in totals-l500 (1).jpgs-l1600.jpgs-l500.jpg

It would appear the cost for the fourth pipe is around $100 or basically double the 3 pipe set...

Secondly, what size connectors and quality are recommended as would not be using the old ones.

    Regards

    Arty

Where does the fourth pipe go?
Pipe 1 - turbo charger output to metal intake pipe
Pipe 2 - metal pipe to intercooler inlet
Pipe 3 - intercooler outlet to inlet manifold
I can't think were a fourth would go?

the fourth hose is required for ACE fitted vehicles .
IE , 4 piece kit will do all variants but you'll have one hose left over
Three piece kit will do non ACE cars

Thanks Discovery, as noted as mine is fitted with ACE so will have to look to take the sting and look to the 4 piece kit!

You don't perchance know the size of the size of the connectors and any recommendations for them?

From what I could find you need:

    4x 40-60mm(turbo side)
1x each of 50-70mm and 60-80mm(for the inlet side)

Where does it go? I have looked on Microcat and RAVE and I only see the 3 hoses.

So where does it go then on an ACE vehicle? I have a MY03 D2a HSE - top of the line spec including ACE and as outlined above I cannot see where the fourth hose would go. I don't see why ACE would have an effect on this - it's a suspension item and we're talking about air intake piping here. Having worked on a number of Td5 D2's I haven't noticed a difference in the intake piping setup between ACE and non-ACE nor a variant that takes four hoses.

Do you mean the clamps, if so the originals if still ok will be the best choice as they are better all round than most aftermarket unless using T clamps

I did mention in my post that you would have 1 hose left over if you got the 4 piece kit, maybe I wasn't clear enough.
The 4 piece kit will do both ACE and non ACE cars , the 2 hoses in the middle of the green kit pictured although looking similar are not the same , from memory one is longer in order to clear the ACE pump.

Just checked, I'll try clarify it,

Ace equipped vehicles definitely only have the 3 hoses, non Ace definitely only have 3 hoses.

On Ace equipped vehicles the outlet house from the turbo is about 40 mm longer to clear the Ace pump, the inlet hose to the intercooler also looks to be slightly longer.

The 4 hose kit would *possibly* be able to be fitted on either type, but it would be best to have the correct "s" hose into the intercooler, and you will always have one hose left over. It would be best to simply by the correct 3 hose kit for whichever vehicle you are fitting it too.

    Cheers
    James
