    TD5 Discovery 2A EGR EU3

    Hey Everyone,

    I’m sure there are plenty of posts on this already...

    I’m looking at removing/Blanking my EGR system. It’s the EU3 module which is in 03-07 discovery’s. My question is... I’m aware/pretty certain that the EU2 modules don’t throw a code when blanked off. Does anyone have any experience when blanking the EU3 modules? Does this throw a code?


    While I’m on it. And excuse my naivety but Is there credit to installing a catch can without removing the EGR?

    If you remove everything, no codes are thrown on an EU3.

    I removed the solenoids etc and just blanked off the vacuum pipe.

    I suspect that fitting a catch can without EGR removal would be OK, as long as you pulled off the inlet manifold and cleaned it and the EGR valve thoroughly, as with say over 100KK on the car the valve will have a lot of build up.

    I however don't know for sure whether the EGR valve is a restriction to inlet flow. I think it probably is seeing the Brits seem to insist that it is deleted when fitting tunes.

    The catch can will reduce or eliminate oil mixing with the exhaust gas so by itself will benefit the engine in the long term by keeping the inlet clean.

    Forget the catch can,just sort out the EGR.
    Its the EGR that causes the majority of the gunk,in my opinion.
    My '04 didn't throw any codes when i modded it,so i think you will be OK.

    I like others removed the EGR valve body, the EGR cooler and the solenoids. No error codes.

    Can anyone recommend a good kit within AUS that contains all the required parts including the vacuum hose blanks?

    Small bolts will do. They are VACUUM hoses so will stay put if reasonably tight/screw in.

    I used a small screw to block the vacuum line to the air box, right up at the air box.

    I'm not sure that this is right, the Discovery 2 with it's Td5 ceased in 2004 for the Discovery 3 which has an entirely different Diesel engine (2.7L TDV6).

    Yes, there are many of us that have done it. I cannot recall, but it is likely that it does throw up a fault code when you scan the Fault Codes with a diagnostic device. It doesn't constantly display a check engine light or any such on the dash so I don't see this as an issue. I believe that an ECU remap will be able to turn off/remove the fault code which is why I likely no longer see it on mine.
    I'd recommend not being concerned with this as blanking off the EGR.

    Have a search on here for the many previous threads about ProVents for details on this.
    But in short I'd recommend you do both.

    Given the country of origin it's usually both cheaper and greater range of genuine, OEM and higher quality custom aftermarket parts, to source items from the UK for these. I usually find the freight to be fairly equal in time as that of Australian suppliers.
    Most Australia 4WD shops are more interested in the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, LandCruiser, Prado and Nissan Patrol products only.
