Hi the air gap between the sensor and reluctor ring is tiny so any axial play inside can hurt the sensor... IMO you need a new hub
Hi all,
In my efforts to track down the three amigos, I had a look at the ABS Sensor in my front-left wheel. It looks like the toothed ring inside the hub had contacted the sensor at some point in time and stopped it from working.
I'm not sure how long it has been like that as I purchased the vehicle back in April, and recently found that the previous owner put silicon inside the light guides for the warning lights on the dash.
I'm picking up a new ABS Sensor tomorrow, but am I throwing my money away on a sensor when the hub will ruin it again? Your thoughts please.
Mind you, I'm wondering how such a thing would happen in the first place.

I had a similar problem, though not as extreme as this. I tried fitting a new sensor but it was a waste of money. Anybody want an almost new front sensor? I got a new hub, complete with sensor from Mario at Roverlord and it was on special at the time. PM Mario and ask him for a price. If you're going to replace the hub yourself DON'T follow the RAVE method, it's unnecessarily complex and requires a bearing press. I did it this way www.discovery2.co.uk / Front Wheel Hub / Bearing Assy and it's quite a simple job.

While I know Mario will sell the correct hub,,
others may not.
There are some for sale with the INCORRECT number of teeth.
Please be sure which one you are buying...

Me too.
Perhaps it has been installed previously without the 'O' ring or something got caught up ? I'd try a replacement sensor and spin the hub to ensure clearance before final fit.
It's strange, I've modded three D2's for the 3 amigos and all have had 'front left sensor fail' faults, why is it so ? Why the front left and not others, coincidence or some other reason.

The left wheel gets more 'action' look at the tyre wear patterns, the front left goes first.
I got lucky with my amigos, a previous owner turned some of the warning lights off.
Buy a proper one. Try Roverlord.

I ended up replacing the ABS sensor tonight, 3 Amigos have gone away for now!
I plan to check the sensor in about 200ks time and see what shape it is in. If there's any wear, I'll purchase a new hub without sensor and fit it.
Thank you for your help everyone!
For those curious -
I have gone 800klms now and no issues whatsoever.
FWIW when I installed the new sensor, it measured itself to be fractionally shorter than the old one. Maybe the original sensor was not the 'original' sensor?
I ordered a hub from Roverlord as a backup in case the sensor goes again.
The owners of Roverlord were excellent to deal with, and upgraded my shipping to express for free, out of concern that it would not arrive in time! That is some rare, high quality service. The hub itself is made very well and manufactured by European Bearing Technologies. I can't fault it!
Thank you for your help everyone!
