    Temperamental Discovery 2 TD5

I have an 04 D2a TD5 and I'm having temperamental issues with it. I'm hoping someone can chime in with other things to look at.

The car will work fine one day, and absolutely awful the next. On a good day it'll rev up, I can hear the turbo kick in, off we go. On a bad day, it won't go over 2500 rpm, won't change gears to accelerate and won't go over about 50kms/hr. I don't currently have access to a scan tool, so am working my way through possible issues.

    * Checked MAP. Was nice and clean.
    * Checked MAF. Car runs as above with it connected. It started and stalled with it removed.
    * Checked turbo wastegate. Wasn't fully sticky, but did the wiggle remedy with some WD40.
    * Replaced fuel pump in Dec.
    * Replaced the FPR this month. It sprung a leak.
    * Have EGR delete and de-cat, so it's less likely the exhaust is blocked.
    * It's possible the fuel filter is blocked, but seems unlikely due to it working fine yesterday.

There doesn't appear to be much oil in the intake lines, but I am yet to pull off all the hoses, check for delamination and clean the intercooler. Given it's intermittent, I'm pretty sure it's an electrical issue.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious and am looking for suggestions. If someone is in the South Brisbane area and willing to lend a hand with a scan tool, I would greatly appreciate it also.

Have a look at the wastegate solenoid paying particular attention to the three hoses that are connected to it. Try running for a few days with the solenoid bypassed - hose runs directly from wastegate actuator to the metal tube that goes to the intercooler.

If the solenoid or one of its hoses goes bad then all sorts of strange behaviour happens and a Nanocom will tell tales of overboost, etc.

Thanks. I did actually run the car with it bypassed for a bit but put it back with new hoses when the FPR was replaced. I may have been optimistic that I didn't have two issues running at the same time. Do I need special vacuum lines for this, or standard lines from a parts place are fine, provided they are the right size?

I'll give it another go later today.

I can't remember what type of hose I used but I think it was windscreen washer hose which I just got it from Supercheap and made sure I got the right size. It doesn't need to be vacuum hose - it is pressurised.

A td5 , irrespective of version, should not stall with the MAF unhooked, if it is a repeatable fault, report back.

I'd say it's possible that the fuel pump or something in that circuit is unhappy.

    Cheers
