    CDL to D2 and SLABS

Am going to be doing the CDL and going over the routine

    www.discovery2.co.uk/Factory Diff Lock

The SLABS is modified so as not to turn off the electronic aids, I purchased a D2a SLABS sometime ago and thought it was just bolt in and viola, but DOES the wiring harness still need to be modified??????

    No

But just to be sure, what's the revision number of the slabs you bought?

This came out of a D2a with a NNN 130 ecu (they are out at BIL's and haven't got them here) so have to assume it is the appropriate one for that year, brings up a question as to what are the differences in the NNN between the 120 130 etc.

    The NNN000130 and NNN000120 are earlier revision ecu's, the NNN500020 & NNN500030 are later revision ...I believe.

The 20 suffix are manual, 30 suffix are auto.

There are other ecu's but not as common

I have upgraded the SLABS ECU in my 99 build Discovery 2.
Took a SRD000070 out, put a SRD000150 in that came out of a D2a. My engine is 10P running with an MSB ECU with a TRS chip. It’s nice having the chimes when the CDL is engaged, and also on start up. At start up following the instrument panel self check you’ll most often hear 3 chimes... which for me means “Good To Go” CDL to D2 and SLABS

IF we ever get out the Dan 'Don't want to lose my Look at Me Look at Me Television Gig' imposed exile here in Melbourne, wont be hearing the chimes, be singing Hallelujah!!

Did you notice any perceptible difference (of course the CDL makes a difference lol) in the vehicle with the D2a SLABS. All I have seem to be doing is watching youtube and it is amazing to note the difference in techniques with D2's watching the slow and steady ones how the TC grips early on raised wheels and others who stop, other gun it etc.

Yes! I’ve noticed an absence of the common random ABS and Loss of Road Speed Signal DTCs that I used to see. The ABS and Traction Control response is not as aggressive and I feel that the braking / pedal ‘feel’ is a little different (ie:better) - but it might be my imagination at work there CDL to D2 and SLABS

On the ones I've done the only realistic difference I've noticed would be less 3 amigo style faults, I think the early ones are a bit aggressive on that.

On one vehicle I had 3 amigos faults relating to wheel speed sensor issues that I could not get rid of, even with replacement parts, fitted the last revision slabs...all gone now for a few years.

only had a momentary visit from the three friends, they went Ole and then went away, never to be seen again.

Take it and accept that there is an improvement but hard to quantify with real world data. Even if only a marginal improvement I think for what I remember at $50 it will be worthwhile even if all it means I dont have to cut wires!

In 2019 I paid $110 - and it’s worth it in my opinion if you own a pre 2004 D2CDL to D2 and SLABS
