It's not going to be a five minute fix, the transmission has to come out. Could be the torque converter.
Hi all
Im new here
I just bought a Discovery 2 TD5 with 220,000 k's and a buggered transmission for 2k
The Transmission in it has been fitted 20,000k's ago (Second hand box) and has no drive.
Engine note does change when put into gear, result is same in high and low range
Propshafts not broken
Gearbox has oil
If you rev it enough it will move a bit but very weakly and jumps, does this in all gears, high and low range
Any diagnostic suggestions? Just trying to find the problem with it and fix it
Cheers
Dylan

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
Yeah, torque convert could be problem, but more likely could be the flex plate.
if you are a little mechanically minded, you can get under and probably see it(or feel it) yourself.
There is an inspection plate on the bell housing you may be able to see it.
The flex plate is a triangular shape and the flywheel is circular, so you will (just)see the difference between the two items bolted together(ie, triangle shape against a circle shape is easy to differentiate).
Access port is not huge, maybe take photo with flash or something.
If it's not torque converter or flex plate .. have you checked colour of the trans fluid.
You would think that with only 20K done on even a S/H box, they would have used new fluid, so should still be nice clear red colour.
But like Ian said, it'll be box out job.
Torque converter and flex plate are not hugely expensive($400 $200 respectively), but if it they are cactus, best to go with a heavier duty version of either(both!)
From memory, if the box needs a more serious overhaul, it's much bigger $(multi K) cost.

Could be the torque convertor was not seated correctly when the secondhand, box was fitted, they have specific depths l posted details a while back if you do a search, it could be it was just engaged with the oil pump and if the oil pump doesn't drive then she won't move.
Arthur, in my experience a flex failure results in much ominous sound with normal drive, quickly followed by blissful silence and absolutely no drive.

Yep, probably spot on.
My only experience with cracked flex plate was at my mechanic(his customers) V8 D2.
It had no drive except when revved out a lot, then moved at rate measured in millimeters per year.
I never got to see what the actual damage was tho.
Owner looked to sell it too, but wanted too much.
IIRC, flex plate breaks at the triangle points on a TD5 so you're probably right in that it'd have absolutely no drive.
