SubscriberSo what to do about replacing it?
I have a Hardy Spicer one on at the moment which I bought second hand but almost new.
But I am not entirely happy with it as the front axle end UJ seems a bit sticky.
The only repair kit on Ebay is about $270.
Yet I can buy a Chinese one branded Masko A and made by Ningbo Eastiger who have been in business for about 20 years for about AUD 270 landed from the USA. The Masko A looks pretty good. It looks like they made a batch for a USA distributor as The D2 shaft is not in their catalogue, only shafts for USA 4x4s.
A Hardy Spicer from LR direct in UK is $341 landed.
I do not want to rebuild the Double cardan myself as I can see myself losing half of the tiny rollers from the stabilizer. I hate working on UJs as one slip and a roller is in the end cap which means a restart. (ask me how I know. I still have one on the shelf from my RRC with 3 caps.)
I am sure without yet checking that Hardy Spicer will want near $400 to rebuild mine.
What to Do?
Regards PhilipA

SubscriberYes thanks but as a pensioner out of my price range.Tom Woods drive shaft would be the go. Jeep connections i think they are called sell them. Good piece of kit for the D2.
My days of rock crawling and Nissan Trials are over so need as cheap as I can get consistent with acceptable quality.
In any case I have never broken a UJ even in competition. the worst I had was an experimental Holden 5 litre CV joint Front shaft on my RRC which got dimpled/damaged on the Nissan Trials. That doesn't count axles of course. twisted several of them before getting Jacmacs for my Detroit.

Flash your card & ask for "Seniors Discount". No kid. I find it surprising who will & some don't/won't advertise it but if you ask what have you got to lose? Because there in not a sign on the door doesn't mean they won't. Go with the arse out of your pants & crap footwear & unshaven helps too.

SubscriberMasko A out as not greasable.
Another Chinese I assume from UK for $200 plus I guess 100 Freight with greasable UJs.
How can Ozzie dealers charge $500 plus for Hardy Spicer when $341 including GST from UK with $100 air freight?
Regards PhilipA
Phone Hardy Spicer direct see if they can do a price i know i phoned them in Hobart a couple of years ago and they were cheaper than auto shops
Front drive shaft.
Wasn't $500, IIRC, closer to $300.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
