The driver's door has always had a double clunk when opening or closing the door. It is the checker assembly that does the clunk. The arm is loose in the bracket. Now the pin that connects the arm to the bracket on the passenger door has vanished. I have replaced this, temporarily with a screw, the screw is loose! and I get thye same clunk clunk on opening or closing the door. Now with a new part. the clunk cl;unk will go. The question is, how do I remove the slop and the clunk clunk, from the driver's door?

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

Pin replacement might work for a while but the issue is the lever from the door mechanism is much harder steel than the attachment on the pillar and this latter wears and the hole is too large for the pin. Could try drilling out the whole thing for a larger pin but I gave up when my drill couldn't make a dent on the lever part.

I tried removing the door, but the clunk from gear changes and the whine from the wife was excessive!!
