Mines doing the same too! Not as far along as yours. I have some screws with very large washers installed, but it is temporary at best as the plastic deteriorates.
Wouldn't mind working out a decent solution.
My window switch panel has nothing to mount to, with the plastic on the centre console well and truly decayed.

Thinking about creating a new one out of thin Aluminium sheet (foldable, 1mm?) with extended edges that would fold in line with the centre console and drill into it where there is still something to attach to.
Something like this... excuse the amateur CAD, playing around on the iPad with a rough model of a d2 found online.

Some holes for the switches and hey presto... yay or nay? I have thought that drilling into brittle plastic isn’t a long term answer, but the rest is in pretty good nick, and seems to get thicker away from the recessed part where the original mount was.
On to something or lost the plot?
Can’t see any other suggested fixes that would suit here or elsewhere online. Thanks

You could put an aluminium plate on the inside and screw into that.

There is a mob that sell this for the D2's already although it's a bit longer and covers around the gear shift area too. I saw it on Facebook the other day and will see if I can find the link for you.
EDIT: this isn't the mob I saw but they also do it:
Discovery 2 Shift Plate & Switch Bezel — blacklisted engineering
I have had to put my mind to finding a solution to the exact same problem some time ago and in the end it was the simplest solution that was the best.... and it was cable ties!
Those tiny colourful ones that Jaycar sell that are about 1.5 or 2mm wide. Drill 2mm holes in the console close as you can to the 4 corner holes in the switch panel. Ideally the ties should be a snug fit in holes to hold the ties in place as you work to manipulate the ties thru the panel corner holes. Insert the ties into the console hole from the outside and starting with 1 corner thread the cable thru the switch panel but coming thru from the back... engage the tie but do not snug it down until all corners are threaded. The cable tie heads are tiny and can be positioned so they do not interfere with the refitting of the cover plate. It’s a quick satisfying solution that is strong , reversible and retains the factory appearance.![]()

Good on you Bob. I woke up and thought, I’ve got a newborn there’s no way I’m going to get around to cutting and folding Al anytime soon! So that’s exactly the solution I need. Cheers![]()
