19mm or 3/4inch. I used silicone hose, doesn’t leak [emoji1417]

Have bought my silicone hose lengths initially online from a local hose supplier BUT latterly from the heavy vehicle spare parts counter at a nearby truck service centre, which is much cheaper[emoji1417] Actually, they’re cheaper for many items we 4WD’ers buy ..... CBs and antennas, batteries, accessory lighting, fridges, lubricants, hoses [emoji6]....
Which reminds me .... must drop into William Adams and get a new CAT battery before the current one, ....which I installed in August 2012, decides to turn up it’s toes [emoji16]

FWIW Samco do a 19mm blank hose in Silicon, too.
Williams Motorsport on the Gold Coast usually have them in stock

Samco one is a lot better, just a quick fix version if required.

I have fixed the leak. A big thank you to Autobarn Altona North, who gave me 90mm of 19mm ID hose.
I have filled up the reservoir, another 4 litres and bled the air out. The engine runs fine, Now the million dollar question. What do I use to flush out the cooling system as at present it has 50% coolant and 50% water. Even if the head gasket is ok I will need to flush the system and refill with the correct coolant mix.

Oh yeah. How do I know if the head gasket is gone? No bubbles or exhaust smell in the reservoir.
Loss of coolant? The top hose stays hard overnight? What else.

Hate to say it but if the red temp light came on she was cooked. And the alloy LR V8 is not forgiving of cooking like an old Ford straight 6 cast iron lump or similar is. Sorry to say my bet is that you are on borrowed time with that motor. If it were me I would run it and keep a close eye on the coolant and use a OBD2 temp gauge showing actual temps and replace gaskets when it shows coolant leak or getting hotter than normal. Replacing the 3 way thermostat with an 82 degree top hose old fashioned thermostat may preserve what is there and certainly will help with the motor once gaskets are done or with a new block (issue could be a crack in the webbing).
