Temp Gauge Red Light came on!!

And the gauge went to the bottom. Coolant is low. The car is being driven by my son. Head gasket gone? But it's only 100k old!!
I am thinking that the gauge went to the bottom due to a lack of coolant. But where did the coolant go?
    Any ideas?

Latest.. The coolant return from the oil cooler has leaked. aka mystery pipe. which has been deleted. Easy to fix that leak, but what about the head?

The A/C fan is on. The only fault on the Nanocom is, (16,2) HIGH SPEED CRANK (LOGGED) Would I get an over temp fault?
The rubber hose has a pin hole in it. I found that out after filling it and watching the coolant **** out!!
What size hose is this? 18mm ID? Where to buy?

The needle drops to the bottom at the same time that the red light comes on as a 2nd indication that the coolant is excessively hot. The fan runs until an over-temp fault is cleared - it will not clear itself.

Early D2s needed a replacement ecm as LR didn't initially provide any method of clearing the over-temp fault.

The dealer cleared mine whilst in for a service but that would have been around 2004. I had disconnected the temp sensor as part of my research for the alarm system that I was building after my '99 D2's porous head issue. The '99 got the new ecm under warranty but not a new head.
