Temp Gauge Red Light came on!!

The very first accessory that I installed on my D2 after purchasing it in 2010 was a Low Water Alarm Sensor from enginesaver.com.au. The sensor is installed in place of the bleed screw in the top radiator hose. 10 years later I decided that the best place for the sensor was in the reservoir tank and after a failed attempt with a float switch that left me with a 16mm hole drilled in the side of the tank to accomodate the float switch, I reverted to the original concept, which was also employed by Slunnie in his installation, and that is using the presence of coolant to provide the earth path for the alarm circuit.

I managed to salvage the situation and it looks like this now...

No, it’s one that I made to fill a holeTemp Gauge Red Light came on!!

I had previously drilled a 16mm hole in the tank to fit a float switch but the floating bit fouled on an internal divider inside the tank and the installation was a failure.

To recover the situation I enlarged the hole to 20mm and screwed in brass plug to form a thread in the tank wall. For the probe I drilled a hole in a 20mm plastic irrigation plug and fitted a M4 stainless steel bolt and an electrical spade connector. Fitted probe to the tank - NB: smeared Sikaflex on the threads prior to screwing it in and tightening down.
My probe is just a large version of the original radiator hose bleed hole probe that came with the Engine Saver kit .
