Put it on the roof rails. Overhang the rails front and rear. Attach the tail end of a strap to the very front of the roof rails a pass it under the item to the front, then over to the same point on the opposite rail. Repeat the same method at the back. This will prevent fore and aft movement. One or two straps attached from one side to the other will control sideways and vertical movement. Ensure the side to side straps take the shortest route.
Not 100% sure Bunnings here in Perth give out free trailers, depends how much stuff you buy I guess, but somewhere like Sand and soil supplies do, even with a half load, say $30.00 worth of lawn sand, $25.00 load of limestone etc. etc.

(cheap light rack, easy to remove.)
But you have to buy something there that needs a trailer for it to be free - but if not buying they will rent out for a fee.Quote:

No problem, except initially I didn't think about it properly and strapped it around the upper door(window) frame .. doh!
So re-did it with drivers door open! [biggrin] ... and all good.
Just two ratchet straps via open windows on the other doors, and then just a bit more difficult to close drivers door, but it worked out fine in the end.
ps. as I don't need a rack on my D1 full time, my plan was to remove it for most every day useage and only install it when needed. Hence Al rack, not steel.
Not hard to remove it by myself as it's really only about 20 or so kgs with the legs still attached.
I release the legs from the gutters, lift the rack, place large cushions and slide it off from the rear .. fairly easy to remove and refit.
Hire trailer, or call courier service(with ute type vehicles too). Depending on how far store is from home could end up costing less for a courier too.
