    Oil Catch Can

    Just wondering if anyone is running a Catch Can on their TD5s, are they worth it and what ones are you running
    Sadly I've spent way too much money on this car and need to do all the preventative things to keep my million dollar car running as long as
    possible as it will more than likely be the family heirloom that will be passed down from generation to generation to get value out of the car.

    Definitely a good idea as the engines get higher and higher in mileage, they're going to be recirculating more oily mist, not less. Provent is a brand favourably mentioned when it comes to catch cans. I haven't fitted one to TD5 yet, but the Patrol has one and it does pull out a good quantity of oil over time that would have otherwise ended up in the intercooler.

    I fitted a Provent 200. The inter cooler will need a clean in about 380000km.

    Well that is good to know as I've just had the intercooler upgraded to a serck intercooler.
    was having a look at the provent but didn't know if there was a model specific one
    or just get one and have it fitted

    Provent has 2 models a 200 and 150. I fitted a 200 to my td5 and it worked well, my bt50 has a 150 and it seems to work ok but the filters are a lot more expensive. There a lot of after market ones for the 200.

    They have caused huge issues for some, causing the engine crank case to over pressurise.

    This is more of an issue for the later 200,as the pressure relief valve is also built into the filter,not the cap of the Catch Can.

    Provent 200

    Plus one for Provent 200 in TD5 Defender (NZ)
    It captures a surprising amount of oil over a few thousands KMs. Anything that prevents oil entering and coating the inside of the intercooler has to be good

    You have nothing to lose by running a catch can. Was blown away with how much oil mine picked up in my old 2.8 Colorado. Wish i did it from new to be honest.
