    C PILLAR TRIMS D2

Does anyone know the socket size for the C pillar trim nuts?
New ones arrived, trying to unscrew the remains of the old ones but cant seem to get a bite on the nut from 6mm up to 8mm.
I'm assuming they aren't reaching deep enough as the thread does look fairly long so need the right size so I can get a deep reach socket on them. Can't see them once the socket goes into the access holes.

Wouldn't surprise me if they gave this design job to the same person who located the oil filter on the TD5...

I did this job yesterday and a right royal PITA it is. Who deemed it necessary to remove virtually all of the rear trim to get at these nuts? A 6mm should do it but I had to resort to a 9/32 hex socket. In the process I dropped 2 nuts into the depths of the body never to be recovered. Had to go to Bunnings and got 6mm head nuts to fit M4 bolts plus washers as the originals have the shoulder on them so the washers are required. Used copious amounts of Vaseline on the socket to keep things in place. Should have done this when removing . I'll have to do the right hand side all over again as the folks in the UK from whom I got the parts sent me two LH ones. It wasn't their fault as the package was labelled as LR original RH! Now waiting for a resolution.

Incidentally, why does LR describe them as D Pillar trims? By my logic, the D Pillar is the rear pillar.

Wasn't Rimmers was it? Just took all of the RH side trim out, unwrapped both the trims and I've got two LH ones as well...

Yes, it was Rimmers so they've now got 2 Oz problems to deal with. I did exactly the same as you! I should have opened both before I started and saved myself the trouble of dismantling the RHS. Rimmers have obviously got a whole batch that's been mislabelled.

Have you contacted Rimmers yet? I sent them photos of the packaging but haven't heard back from them yet. I'm going to get a set of nuts this time. On which subject, when I did the LHS, I found a 7mm socket that fitted.

I just sent pics of them and asked them to "send me the right one which incidentally is the right one, not another left one"

I ended up buying a 6mm and 7mm 6 point deep reach this morning, I'm sure I checked the nut on the 6mm but after I'd taken it out and put the new one in, I'd greased up the tip of the 7mm and worked fine.
Turns out I left the 7mm on the ratchet as I'd used it to take the grab handles off which are actually 7mm.

I know that RAVE says to take off the grab handles but I can't see why unless it refers to the 7 seater. On mine, 5 seater, the grab handles are way forward of any trim that affects getting at the C pillar nuts.

Again, why D pillar according to LR?
