    Non starter at the disco!

Land Rover discovery TD5 16p 2002 Non start

Leading up to the brake down there was occasional los of power, the previous owner had replaced the fuel pump (witch was noisy wen I bought it so didn’t think much off it ) he also replaced the diesel cooler.
So he disco broke down started loosing power and could not get any more so puled over turned him off and couldn’t get him going again.
Fast forward the fuel pressure is at about 3.5-3.8 bar wen is should be 4-6bar? The fuel pump is the same volts as the battery so it’s getting power could it be the flue pressure regulator?

Also the air noises wen fuel is pumping? Could this be the regulator or injector seals it dose look like the oil level has increased ( after I have ran the purge a lot wile trying to diagnose/ start the bugger) I have hit a wall on my researching on line I think it’s the pump but there expensive and it’s only just shy of 4bar witch makes me think it might be the regulator? Any help would be welcome

Do a search on the D2 sub-forum, you can now buy just the pump, from Bosch, to fit into your existing assembly, far cheaper than replacing the entire assembly.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

When we had leaking injector issues, and it lost power and then died ... sometimes when trying to restart it:

It would start with just a small amount of difficulty after priming the injectors using the sequence, but many times after the priming sequence, you'd need to pump the accelerator while cranking too.

On the easier starts, it'd take maybe 15 sec of cranking(just a guess, not exact time figure .. just roughly).
But on the really difficult start up procedure, it'd need maybe 1 minute (say 2 x 30 sec attempts) with furious pumping of accelerator pedal while cranking.
it would slowly cough and splutter and cough and almost start .. and then try again(pumping pedal) .. and it would do same and eventually splutter into life .. lots of smoke and then finally run OK.

if price is a concern.. I'd begin with replacing the injector seals, much cheaper than a pump, needs a few hrs work, possibly a bit more with a stuck injector. Don't get cheapies, get them from a reputable place .. IIRC they're about $50 or so.
This way you know for sure they are done .. and more than likely they will need to be done at some point anyhow.

If she did don't start, then look for a FPR, you can get by with just a regulator .. apparently(haven't done myself) you can use a Ford (Barra?) regulator .. again maybe Bosch part.

Once you know that injector seals are done, fuel pressure will be back at 4+Bar with a new reg ... and she still don't start, then as Ian said, look into finding the pump only part to rebuild your own pump if still required.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!
