LRA's info on the std front prop doesn't seem right.
Having spoken to them in person re a few items, not only do they come across as very well versed on such topics, but also honest about a lot of stuff too.
Anyhow, their note that the D2 drive shaft is unservicable .. ????
Other than that you can't grease them as originals, replacement unis(which almost all D2's would have by now) can be got with grease nipples.
While the cardan bearing doesn't have a nipple to regrease, it can still be opened to be done(PITA, but still doable).
Of course makes no sense to do that.. better to replace it, and it can be found at various retailers to do so ..
Weird bit of info that!
Other bit of weridiness about the (Tom Woods)propshaft is the that both grease nipples are on the same side.
I've never seen that, and even as youngster still remember dad's Cadillac having a dual uni propshaft, and how the mechanic had them opposing .. which I thought was just the standard way to install them.
Unlikely that it's really going to affect balance in any appreciable way nipples little weight and small circumference to rotate around .. but when installing it'd just make sense to have them opposing.
And then the great blob of weld. Are they so out of balance that it needed so much weight in that location to rectify?
I've only ever had one propshaft balanced in my life as a pretend mechanic.
My old 79RRC. I installed new unis on the front trying to track an annoying vibration. Front prop removed locked cntrdiff, and vibes gone .. so had front prop rebuilt and balanced(even tho I installed new unis only a few hundred klms before .. when unis were cheap things to do!
Took to a bloke well known in Preston. He said it was a specific spot on the slip joint that caused the vibe, I told him new unis .. no matter that mine were new .. new everything!
Fixed the vibe too .. but no way he used so much weight to balance it.
One tiny washer I remember. In a bout of 'blondness' on my part .. I asked him why the small washer was welded there thinking for some kind of service trick or whatever!
Oops! .. of course for balance ... as Inspector Clouseau would say .. "Yes! ... I know that, I know that"
Arthur.
All these discos are giving me a heart attack!
