    Disco 2 Cracked front bumper

Somy my Disco 2 is heading off soon to have her head gasket done which we think is the cause of an exhaust tapping sound. Hopefully she will come back as before running great and immaculate. Well immaculate except for a crack in the front bumper about 15cm long and slowly growing.

Anyone have a fix idea for this that will look neat and compliment the rest of her condition or is it a new bumper?

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    Front bumper crack/damage fixing advice

Only a thin crack, read somewhere that some can almost plastic weld these, but not heard of that before.

Bull bar fixes cracked bumper for good the D2 bumpers are getting a bit old and fragile now you will fix one crack only to get another soon after a second hand bull bar and have it powered coated.

The problem with the bumpers is UV light cooking out the aromatics.

I replaced my rear bumper with a steel one and was surprised that the bottom of the bumper not exposed to the sun was quite pliable seeing the top was brittle..

Anyway, no real help with how to fix once cracked but a way to preserve the bumpers is to soak them with ATF and leave it on for several days, and it will soak in.
    Same with the flares.

    Cracked Bumper

    Thanks Philip,

The bumper crack x 2 came with the motor when I purchased it 3 years ago. The dealer had tried to fill the cracks with a black sealant which just looked crap and didn’t last. I have just been using that spray on bumper cleaner and protector which seems to a) protect from sun b) keeps them looking like new.

I am probably heading towards replacing with metal ARB ones or similar unless I can find a fix that will keep the originals looking like new and deal with cracks at same time. Not sure what metal replacements are best. Black though I think as the car is silver.

    Thanks

    D

Over the years I've made attempts to fix (plastic welding, adhesive, etc) front and rear bumpers on D2's -- both 03/04 and 99/02 front, and rears. Had a bodyshop give a go of an 03/04 one once years ago. Never lasts or looks good. They're made of an oddly brittle plastic unlike any other car bumpers lol. Just bite the bullet and replace it, leave as is, or replace with aftermarket.

Fronts, the 03/04 ARB bumper painted to match looks the mutts.
Rears, personally, I love the look of the stock rear bumper that says Land Rover on it better than anything aftermarket.

    Replacement bumper

Yep I think you are right. Time to think about replacing.

Just hard to know what will look best on a silver one.

    Cheers
