I'm not exactly sure, I know it running the recommended oil for the car (but can't tell you what that is off the top of my head). I've ordered a new switch, we'll try a few things and I think if the problem is still there I will go down the rebuild route. It's got enough K's on it that I'd rather rebuild it than spend a fair bit of money and still have an old engine. If money was endless I would put an LS1 in it, but not an option and even though the Rover V8 doesn't have the best rep, I quite like them.

If a rebuild is on the cards,,, make your $$ limit and work backwards. Its pretty easy to spend 10K on a new 4.6.
ask me how I know...
These days though that will make the engine worth more than the rest of the car and really only worth doing to a Keeper.
HPR10 is the go, on a Z9.

Maybe buy a block and engine stand and do it yourself, they are really simple things..

Low oil pressure is pretty much always caused by 1 or more of the following:

Worn oil pump.

Worn out or incorrectly adjusted relief valve.

Worn main bearings

Worn crank.

And at a stretch... The wrong oil

Just to add,
Camshafts
big ends.
rocker shafts.

I've done a few RV8's. considering the miles, The camshafts are especially well known to wear rapidly.
especially when using modern oils.

Thanks everyone for all the info. Don't think I will be attempting any rebuild myself, beyond my basic mechanical skills. I'll make relevant enquiries next year and make my final decision from there. If I do the rebuild the car will definitely be a keeper and no longer used for work. Otherwise it will be sold and I will look to alternative options for a 4WD.
