Question D2a R380 manual gearbox bell housing wading plugs x 2?

Are the two 3/8" square drive bolts both wading plugs that should be removed for normal road use? Recently acquired another D2a but this one is a R380 5 speed manual and has them both fitted in place...
Neither Land Rover Microcat nor Rave manul have provided any guidance...

    Only fitted when creek/river crossing.
Take them out, at least the bottom one

Some fit them when selling a car to hide oil leaks D2a R380 manual gearbox bell housing wading plugs x 2?

I'd rather the oil leaks out rather than coating the clutch setup any more than necessary...

Well, the bottom one certainly is. I'm not 100% on this, but I believe the cars were delivered with these installed from new. Take the bottom one out, but have a container handy! You'll soon know if your rear main or input shaft seals are good

I took both out. Nothing leaked out so that's at least a positive!

Better check the oil levels then.

In the picture it looks like there’s a little hole next to the bottom wading plug, wouldn’t this be to let oil out if there’s a seal failure?

It seems so to me too. I’m pretty sure this is where my oil leak is coming from.
A bit disappointing really, as I replace the rear seal just a couple of years ago. D2a R380 manual gearbox bell housing wading plugs x 2?
