    Question D2 Td5 air getting in the fuel system

    What would make a D2 get air in the fuel system?
    MY03 D2a Td5 wouldn’t start this morning (just cranks over without firing) after running fine yesterday. Nil fault codes on Nanocom Evolution. 1/4 tank of diesel showing on the fuel gauge. Ran through the bleed process (five accelerator pumps) twice and was then able to get it running. Starts and drives fine after this.
    Fuel filter and leaking FPR replaced within last 2,000km. No signs of fuel leaks.
    Four hours later and it wouldn't start again.

    A few reasons,

    The most common 2 would be the injector seals and a faulty/leaking in tank pump, I think I have the latter at the moment myself.

    How does the intank pump fault work? Would that perhaps be an issue more so when the fuel level is low than when the tank is full?

    I don't know, but I have a pump I've swapped between cars and the fault followed, it could be bogus of course...
    Won't know until I fit a new one.

    But yes, worse when tank level low

    If it were me, I'd be checking/replacing the injector washers-o rings..

    You can replace just the pump part. It is a bit fiddly but half the price of the complete unit, and yes, this is the VDO pump

    I've found a small split in the green convoluted pump line caused this on one.
    X2 on the injector washers.

    When replacing the fuel filter did the old filter o ring seal come off with the old filter if there are 2 o ring seals on the filter this will allow air in I had this problem which took some back tracking. I removed the old o ring and all was good again just a thought as I noticed you recently changed your fuel filter.

    X2 …. only need one O ring, ask me how I know D2 Td5 air getting in the fuel system

    I had a hose get loose on the fuel filter housing for no apparent reason.

    What ks?
    If answers are no and + 160kks then this is likely.
