New D2 Wheel sensor issue plus key fob issue

    Evening ladies and gents
Good lord, haven't used the forum for bloody ages and ages, but thought I needed some advice a little beyond the FB page answers.
After a bit of a break from D2s with a County 110 and a couple of Freelanders (still have the Freelanders and now D1 300Tdi as well), we recently purchased a very nicely presented 2000 Td5. however, I'm now trying to resolve a couple of relatively small, but very annoying issues.

    1. 3 Amigos (obviously)
    2. New key fob

Yes, I have done a thread search...well...a bit.

3 Amigos: error code is RHF wheel sensor, I have yet to check the continuity on the sensor cable, so can't yet confirm it's the sensor, also yet to give the wheel a wobble to see if the bearing is on the way out. The hubs are not so dear these days, so happy to swap them. But... since the code was cleared this evening, the ABS warning immediately reappeared, and the RHF wheel started 'dragging' when turning with ABS activated, footed shortly buy the TC and then HDC, whereupon I get the chimes and the system is disabled or has reduced ability. Before the code was read they were on permanently and the car drove normally. How many iterations of the error need to occur before it becomes a permanent error again, as the current situation is potentially unsafe? I feel like it's either 3 or 5.

Key fob: So it came with one key with a broken lock microswitch, I repaired the microswitch, but ordered a new key. Tried to code the new key at our LR specialist tonight with no luck. I ordered a 433mHz as I understood that was the D2 frequency, but I now see that 'early' cars may be 315mHz, with a change over 'around' 2000, which is right where we are. Has anyone ever seen any build date or ViN information to determine if the car is 315 or 433? At the moment I don't know whether the 433 fob is a dud, or if I need to order a 315 instead.

    Any thoughts or advice appreciated...
    Cheers
    Mike

    Hi Mike....is the key transmitting?
I have an RF sniffer that will tell you if it's transmitting..
I also have nanocom ...so if you want to come round on weekend?

My first thought is that maybe the RHF hub is one of the ones with the wrong number of teeth on the tone ring.

    Hi Mike
the wheel with the faulty sensor will activate the modulator after a reset if the fault is permanent. this is the dragging you experience.
check the voltages to each wheel with nanocom to double check the sensor.

With the key, the change over from 315 to 433mhz was early 99 so yours should be 433mhz but you may have bought an ebay or aftermarket key that cannot be programmed with nanocom or t4 etc.

    Hi Brad,
I'm not sure, I think Mark at Dover's said textbook couldn't see the key.
although its an eBay item, it's from Aussie Remotes in Melbourne, who I think I've bought from in the past, so hoped it would be ok.
If you're about this afternoon or even next weekend, I'd love to drop around - even if it doesn't work, I should have more info to give to Aussie Remotes.

    Cheers!

    Hi Philip,
Not sure, purchased the vehicle with Amigos on permanently, knowing that worst case scenario I'd be looking for a new ABS block, so no idea if the hub's been replaced recently with a faulty item. This is actually more annoying than sourcing a new block, haha.

    Cheers,

    Hi Discorevy
Thanks for that, at least I can be fairly certain the frequency is correct (as advertised anyway).
Before we tried coding the key, the were on permanently and there were no side-effects, so at least in the short term I hope they will stay on again soon, rather than 'staging' the system errors. I had thought after about 5 occurrences, the Amigos would set permanently until the issue was resolved. almost regret clearing the code at the moment... ah, well.

    Cheers!
