The CV and axle shafts are needed. The CV to retain the hub together and the axle half shafts to retain the axle housings oil seal. If you pull the half shaft the housing will fill with dust and dirt - the holes will be pretty big.
So I've done the front diff because i'm an idiot.
I've already pulled the prop and shafts.
Question is,
do the axles retain the wheel bearings or is it safe to drive without the axle shafts fitted?
(I only have to drive it 400klm to get home)
Cheers
Simon

Thanks, I'll be fitting the CV and stub. Not too worried about dirt through the half shaft hole as the amount of shrapnel already in the housing will require extensive cleaning. The diff is toast.
I wouldn't think its a good idea to drive with the shafts fitted (to the diff) in case of potential lockup from broken bits? This is why I removed them. Maybe i'm a bit paranoid.
cheers
