Anyone suggest best way to get a MAP or MAF rapidly, priced a few places for the MAP, huge variation on price
I think I've got a spare MAF. I'll have a look soon & confirm by txt.
Alternatively you could try the MAP & MAF from my Defender to verify your problem.
Got myself a new MAP, made a huge difference, went to try Roger's MAF ok my to find his original one was worse than mine so he is now using the new one
Just to clarify, mrs has already fitted a new MAP sensor and it made quite a difference.
Today we tried my spare MAF sensor on mrs's Disco and Nanocom reading at idle went from 41 on his MAF to 51 when my spare sensor was fitted. At idle reading apparantly should be about 55.
Just for interest, I then started my Defender and only got a reading of 14. surprised at this low reading, I recovered my spare MAF from mrs's Disco and fitted it to my Defender and got a reading of 55.
So..... my spare is remaining in my Defender and mrs has ordered a new MAF from Karcraft.
I hadn't noticed any great change in performance (probably due to slow deteriation of sensor) but have noticed a recent increase in fuel consumption.
This just shows that, where possible, all sensor outputs should be checked as a matter of routine servicing. Ummmm must check my MAP sensor tomorrow.
It always pays to keep an eye sensors, particularly at this age.
I've replaced a number of failed MAP sensors the last few years, and tbh MAF sensors on the TD5 are notoriously unreliable, at least compared to newer ones.
I'd only use genuine or Siemens VDO, the vdo seems pretty good, I've tried cheap ones, even a Delphi, completely inaccurate.
The first MAF sensor that was used when the log data in this thread was uploaded was reading so low it would have thrown an out of range error, and fuelling would have changed over to the MAP sensor, unfortunately this was also reading way under what it should.....
talk about stuck between a rock and a hard place!
What is the MAP? Where is the MAP? Can I change it at home?
Can this faulty MAP ailment be contracted from reading about it?
I went over Mt. Glorious today, both ways, I didn't think it was going to make it! Level ground performance is its normal, lethargic eventuality. The MAF is only sub 20k km ols and was a VDO unit, so should be OK.
The MAP Sensor is on the inlet manifold & is easy to access &/or change.
The other thing to check if you are struggling on the hills is the waste gate modulator. My Td5 Disco wouldn't rev above about 3200 revs on hills and required changing down through the gears and the waste gate modulator was the problem - less than $50 for a replacement from Karcraft IIRC.
