I generally use 6 core 14/0.20 security cable, but decent 7 core trailer cable sounds like a much better idea!

no silicone! RED LEDs are great inside

Good question about what to put up there - i got some silver backed foam insulation from a car upholstery joint- it is lightweight but even tho it has glue backing the dude told me to use high quality spray adhesive onto the steel first then it dry then stick the insulation up there. i did it to a wagon and it is so quiet now when it rains. great for sleep quality on rainy nights and it is much cooler now on hot days.
Definitely seal up those roof rack holes when you pull them off (useless bloody things) but NEVER use silicone on a window on a car. Use proper windscreen sealant that stays flexible and yet still skins over.
Rust proof those alpine windows for sure. Wurth make a great product for any rust conversion that you do not need to wash off - just let it heal the rust for a few hours on a hot day then paint over it. I avoid wax or lanoline - that stuff attracts dust etc and then you get a build-up of muck that traps moisture.... Ballistol is great after you rust proof and paint over every possible area.
If you are putting lights up there have a think about red lights. they do not harm your night vision and are great for camping etc. White LEDs are vicious on the eyes. They do permanent damage.

Yes, my Audi has 2 little red LED lights in the roof console near the rear view mirror. they point directly at the centre console with a very soft and faint light to provide lighting at night on the centre console. When driving you cant actually see the LEDs or the light beam, just the very soft light on the centre console. It took me a while to work out how it all was lit up, and it’s actually really really good!

Interested, obviously the keys have to be replaced as well and programmed, is that all???
Have gone this way with the Receiver from the States as well with a locally sourced key, for an idea of the price of the receiver - the two together are about half the price of a 433Mhz Remote
