Thread: D2 Pretensioner short to power

G'day all.

So, "out of nowhere" (could be a Landy slogan) my SRS light came on and upon reading the codes with Nanocom, the code 024 "RH Pretensioner measures short to power (permanent)" came up as the issue at hand. Suffice to say, resets and ensuring the plugs are fine doesn't move the needle.

I did a lot of troubleshooting, each time disconnecting battery leads for 10 minutes and then doing testing. A few notes on tests:

1) Disconnecting pretensioner plug under seat changes the fault code to "RH pretensioner open circuit (permanent)". Plug it in, and back to "short to power".
2) I measured the RH pretensioner plugged in, car off and battery disconnected, and it comes up with 2.6 ohm. I'm led to believe that means the pretensioner is fine. (When unplugged, it's a dead short.)
3) Taken off centre console and inspected wires of SRS DCU, unplugged it, etc. Can't find anything dodgy.
4) Resetting with Nanocom takes light away for few seconds, and then it returns.

I'm out of ideas! (Probably another slogan coined by us Landy operators. )

Hi, nr 1 proves that the DCU and the circuit are OK, you get short circuit with the pretensioner unplugged cos it has a shorting spring clip within the connector which is supposed to close the circuit when the connector is unplugged and be pushed to open when the plugs are connected so it's possible that the problem is there and the shorting clip is stuck closed so insist in that area
