    TD5 Fuel Pressure Regulator

I have a leak in the FPR. I have the repair kit. I struggle with access to the bolts, pipes, temp sensor. my fingers are too short. I am thinking of removing the inlet manifold to get better access, although that will be a royal pain in the bum. A good opportunity to clean it out.
Will the leak get worse? Or can I drive this as it is. I have a trip to Bright booked Thursday to Sunday to take the kids to the snow. I do not want to start this and end up with an un-drivable car. The kit comes with 2 O rings. There may be another one in there. The only place for an O ring that I can see is for the little mesh fuel filter in the head. Is that right?

I have looked at www.discovery2.co.uk / Workshop / Fuel Pressure Regulator for guidance.

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

I found that lying across the engine, ie climb on top of the rocker cover and lie down with your head above the FPR makes access easier. You'll look like a pervert and the neighbours will laugh at you (well, mine did)

Personally' i'd just run what you have and fix it when you get back.
Take the kit and tools with you though becuase...

You won't get closer to the true "the Land Rover experience" more than changing out an FPR on top of MT Hotham in the middle of winter.

    TD5 Fuel Pressure Regulator

From memory on the D2 (talking of the pre-facelift D2 not D2a) there are three 0 rings - one each for the fuel connectors and a tiny one for the filter / strainer thingy in the head. If you take the inlet manifold off and after eyeballing all the sticky crud in there you will be conflicted and WILL want to clean it and that is a decision that should not be taken lightly as you are likely to end up having to postpone the snow trip…

Beside the one for the strainer there are o-rings on the fuel feed and return pipe's voss connectors, nr 13 in the scheme Genuine Injector, Pipes & Filter (2.5l 5 Cyl Turbo Diesel) For Land Rover Discovery 2 1998 - 2004 Classic | Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts

Gerni plus inlet manifold= Al Jolson impersonation.
    Regards PhilipA
PS take off the lifting eye and if you have removed EGR take off the solonoids.
Best access is long extension through from wheel arch liner.
    Use dummy bolts.
if You have EU3 then take off manifold and replace rubber hose to front, as old one will snap like a carrot.

    TD5 Fuel Pressure Regulator

I used two guide pins (long shank bolts with hex head cut off) and practised different approaches multiple times with the old FPR block until I felt competent. TIP: leave a couple of threads on the guide pins exposed - don’t screw them all the way into the head, because I found that it helped to put the metal gasket on the guide pins first, and when slid home the screw threads held it in place. Next extricate your hand and follow in with the FPR block. Slide a piece of fuel hose onto one of the guide pins to hold the the block and gasket up snug to the head whilst you organise yourself to get the bottom bolt in before moving on and one at time removing a guide pin and replacing it with a bolt. Good Luck.

I cannot get my hand in like that, the clutch line is in the way. It looks like I'll be taking the inlet manifold off.

Hmm, if you do not remove those pipes, no need to change the O rings.
