    Engine starting isuues.

The car started on the thirds try this morning. Normally it starts first time every time. Battery less than a year old. I do hear a click, so I'm thinking starter motor solenoid.. or something. Any ideas?

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

If hear ‘click’ followed by no corresponding response from the starter motor then the solenoid is the likely problem - it’s an easy DIY fix costing around $30.

You tube is handy, removing the starter motor does not seem that painful. Parts ordered.

    Discovery 2 starting issues

I own a 99 d2 td5 and have been having starting issues for some time now. Just recently it was a case of definitely no go.The problem proved to be the fusible link feeding power to the starter solenoid making intermittent contact. The start relay contacts feed power via fl 12 on my circuit diagram, in reality it proved to be fl 13. The contacts of the fusible link were distorted and caused an intermittent fault .Not a problem to cure but a real brain teaser to diagnose.

Thanks, I'll have a look at that, The car started first time this morning and yesterday afternoon it made the sound of the starter motor engaging, then nothing. Could I have an easy fix? (Would I be so lucky)

Tonight difficulty starting.I was getting a definite click from under the bonnet, 5 or six tries until it started. I was hoping that the parts would get here before Saturday. Got home and the parts are here!
Thanks to british4wd land rover parts hobart I ordered the parts yesterday and they arrived today. I reckon that is excellent from South Tassie!

I have found the solenoid contacts burn out after a couple of years .Easy to replace ,I bought the plunger and contacts locally, they also suit Toyota Denso starters.I found the part numbers on a forum ,sorry I can't tell you which one, A kit is available with all the spacers etc. from a number of traders on Ebay.

I've had the car for close to 7 years and 100k kms, a lot longer than a couple of years.
