Td5 wouldn't start, then it did?

    Hello knowledgeable people,

Just wondering if anyone had had this issue before I start down the Google rabbit hole.

Jumped in the disco, td5 auto, this morning and turned the key as usual, she cranked, and cranked, and cracked but wouldn't fire, usually she starts almost instantly.

Ignition off and try again, same result, did that a couple of times.

Turned ignition on, let all the light go out and fuel pump finish, started instantly as usual and had been fine so far the rest of the day, stage 2 remap and goes fine when running.

I've had a look in the red plug, doesn't seem to be any oil in the loom, going to pump a can of contact cleaner in there tonight anyway, I'm assuming the fuel pump is alright, performance is brisk when we are going, could it be crank sensor, fuel pressure regulator, or any other, ideally cheap, ideas?

The same thing has happened once before, about 3 months ago, and nothing since, to be honest I forgot about it.

Any suggestions, ideas or thoughts would be gratefully received as I've tried to keep on top of the maintenance and in the first 18 months she's been rock solid reliable, hoping this isn't the start is something painful.

Thanks in advance for any idea

Mine does that occasionally, the connector on the bottom of the fuel filter plays up, the fuel filter warning light will stay on while cranking.
    Something to check anyway.

Mine very occasionally cranks but no start. Fix is to lock the car with fob, unlock then starts immediately as usual. No idea why, just a LR very occasional quirk!
    Cheers

Ha. You beat me to it. This sort of carry-on is a bit scary if you're in the middle of absolutely nowhere....

On Saturday morning at Narrabeen, after driving up from Melbourne Friday night, the car coughed and would not start. It cranked over at high speed but did not start. I looked under the bonnet, all looked normal. On the 6th try the car started and has been fine ever since.

This is how my injector seals first stared to play up.
The seal or seals go and then compression pushes gases into the head fuel lines.
