D2 SE7 won't start with key but starts and runs by jumping starter.

Hello from the Usa. Looking to buy this 2002 Se7 seller says he can't start by turning the key. It will start and run with ignition on and jumping starter. I've searched this forum but it seems my search skill are not really good with this topic. My first thought is starter relay. Looking for some ideas as it's 200 miles from me. I'd really like to buy this Disco. I think it's an ok deal at $2000 US 128,000 miles. Could be a good replacement when my existing daily driver 2001 D2 has to be retired. My disco starts with just a regular key. I don't have a key fob and don't know what issues that may cause. Am I correct to assume it's not the immobilizer since it starts and runs. Happy new year all. Forgot to mention V8 petrol.

Difficult to diagnose from 10,000 miles away but it could be the XYZ switch ( inhibitor switch). It doesn't sound like a huge issue. Those switches, if it is that, are exy here. Maybe not so bad over there? Easy job to do.

Someone else will know about the starter relay. I don't even know if NAS V8 Discos have one, but I assume they do. Usually controlled by the BCU I think.

    Thumbs up Thank you Swaggie

I didn't think of the XYZ switch. I'll check that out when i see this thing in person. I should have looked at the disco i have parked outside to see if it had a starter solenoid before i posted. I'll post back if I have a starter solenoid on a NAS disco for the benefit of other readers.

It'll have a solenoid. I didn't mention it because I assumed he was jumping the contacts on that. I was more thinking of an ordinary relay like the ones in the fusebox.
