Thread: window regulator

My passenger side window will not close ,went down ok but will not close just clunks and that is it . I have removed the regulator and also the motor from the regulator and tested it . It turns in one direction foe a certain number of revs then stops ,It will then turn in the opposite direction for a certain number of revs but each direction it seems to go slightly more than it should and runs off the quadrant . now the question ,is that distance controlled by the motor ,the distance the window travels and is forced to stop or the bcu ? I have a spare in a wreck I have but no point in replacing it if it is an bcu problem Doug

Hi, the motor operation is conttolled by the BCU but it's not about the distance it travels but when the glass meets an obstacle and the current grows, so i think that the regulator is sticking...here's how it works:

"The front windows are powered by electric motors located in each front door. The window
up/down functions are controlled by reversing the polarity to the motors. The BCU logic
circuits have a stall detect function that monitors the current drawn by the window motor.
When the window contacts the top of the door frame or an obstruction the current drawn by
the electric motor rises. If the BCU detects a sudden current rise the internal logic will
remove the power supply to the front window motor."
