I wonder that as well. They are just rams.

Can't speak to how an operating system will handle it but mines been flopping around fine with no pump ever since I bought it.
Have had a few instances of the tyres / lack of balance weight causing an incessant vibration at speed which triggers the dashlight to come on. Bit of consternation the first few times as had a pump burst into flames last year, but this does not seem to have much impact on driving.
Do slow down a bit around the bends etc. but can stop, turn off and restart and the light disappears.
have also found my boot is cracked and will need to be replaced and has therefore a slow leak, looking to forward to repairing that in the next couple of weeks.
Decided to go for Plan B. It’s done 355K km and I’ve booked it into my local indie who will install a new Ram for $595. Would cost me $500 plus 4 x banjo washers plus PAS fluid plus time, so a good deal.
Not worth attempting a rebuild unless anyone else has proven it’s doable and is effectively a safety item.
Simon. Before you repair this can you try sierrafery's idea and remove the relay and report the results.
I have purchased the different belt and the idler pulley, so if I had an ACE hose blow in a remote area I could remove the pump.
If removing the relay works, this would be a much easier option if a hose blew in a remote area.
Hi Dave,
Yes, yesterday I removed the relay and drove ~40 km with the ACE Amber light on. No more drips from the ram and no weird behaviour but I didn’t try any swerve tests!
So appears to be fine with just the relay removed and ace pump still running as usual.
Cheers Simon
