    New springs and shock on front. 2" lift! Or not.

    On Saturday I installed the new springs on the front, on the driver's side. the ride height is 510mm not the 545mm I was expecting. From what I have seen 500mm is standard on the front of the D2 measured from the cetre of the hub to the edge pof the guard. It was a pain to insert the spring. I had to remove the sway bat connection. If the spring was 2" longer, I am not sure I could have fitted it. I need a better spring compressor if I am to install a 2" lift, longer spring or a spacer. Then I'll need another car for a daily driver! I have contacted the suplier and I am waiting for a response. I think I need a better spring compressor if I am to install a 2" lift, longer spring or a spacer.

    Atleast for the front it helps a LOT if You take the chassis crossmember off when putting in the longer springs. Like the +2" ones.
    This is to help the front axle to drop down more as the front propshaft will hit the crossmember.


    I took +2" out and put +3" in, with the crossmember in place, so it CAN be done, but a LOT easier if You take it off.

    Some generic spring compressors will suffice. Atleast mine are just something I grabbed off the parts store, no way the most expensive/pro or anything.

    Orange spring in the photo is the +2" one, and the yellow is the +3" one pressed down to fit in with the crossbar on.

    It's ben some time, but I don't recall any particular difficulty with this job. Those compressors in Dervish's pic are all I have ever used.

    Lifted springs in a D2 doesn’t require spring compressors.

    I’ve fitted +4” springs by hand on several occasions. +2” would be even easier!

    Ok, then, remove the cross brace and maybe the antisway bar to lower the axle. On a good note the coil company agree that the ride height should be higher. Hopefully they will send me the longer ones before I go back to work.

    They usually arent longer, just higher rate

    Like I said, it's much easier when taking the crossmember off..
    I did notice that, but only after I had persuaded the second front spring in place to the right side.
    Did I feel stupid at that point....

    Never removed that crossmember to change springs.
    Just undo one end of the shock.

    Did you remove one end of the front prop? I have to remove the Xmember under the front prop also otherwise the spring remains captive.
