First of all you should tighten the wastgate to 10-11 threads cos 16 psi boost is too low, you have to get around 20 under load to have power which is perfectly doable with the original turbo as long as everything is OK
Are there any Australian business doing VNT upgrades for the TD5 or do we still have to order from the UK?
If not, who has imported a turbo and what has been the total cost. Was it worth it?
Has anyone got some real torque and power data - before before and after?
I have an MBS chip which is from TR spares in Adelaide - I bought the ECU second hand.
The engine has V low Km - compression is on spec and has very large intercooler. I'm running 16 psi at the intake.
The exhaust studs are upgraded and no exhaust leaks since I did it 4 years ago.
I tow a boat which is 750kg all up and I need a little more power for safely overtaking caravans - they are doing 90km/hr and then they always accelerate when they come to the overtaking lanes.
It is the 80 to 110 area that needs the improvement. The trucks are faster than me and I always let them get round - but those caravaners!!!!!
I dont want to use my P38 as it is in showroom condition. The TD5 is fitted out for camping - probably 200kg of gear plus 2 people - plus 125 litre tank.
Rig below - rear springs now changed to Dobinson C51-027V to fix the rear sag you see ( OME springs )

Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned
I woulds say before spending a ton of cash in that manner .. talk to member Shack if the MSB chip could be tuned properly to achieve half of what you ask for.
I don't know the history of 'my' D2(yay! it's mine again .,. for now) but in doing some work on it, I found that the ECU has a sticker on it saying TRS .. and that it had been opened before, I assume to also check for oil contamination, which was why I was checking it too. It is an NNN, and so trivial to upload a map. I know others that have rechipped an MSB.
Shack offered to help me with an unrelated issue, but still ECU based, and having been a TRS only map, I assume going by the sticker on the ECU cover, Shacks little half mod changed the way the TD5 powered on .. and used fuel.
Seat of the pants feeling I reckon is easily 25% more power(or response), almost zero black smoke compared to the TRS only map before, and uses about 10% less fuel now, but more savings on a highway run.
Like I said tho, got to chat with shack and see if he can remap the chip, or supply an alternative.
Arthur.
All these discos are giving me a heart attack!
