    Suspension question

Howdy folks question on behalf of my dad. He recently bought a really nice d2, it's got bullbar and winch, and is oddly low for a d2. He wants to put 2 inch on it, but retain the same level of comfort. Does anyone recommend a suspension set up that will do what he's after? Or is it not possible Suspension question Mine he finds too stiff and harsh.
    Thankyou Suspension question

Leonnie, does it have SLS? If it does, keep it. I took it off mine which was a mistake. I can’t recommend spring ratings for your dad because mine is also stiff and harsh.
Will be following this cos I’m too old for the ride in mine these days ☹️😂

I put SLS into mine, it rides well. I put Les Richmond springs on the front, with Dobinsons shock on the front. One day I'll install the SLS air compressor. and program the car for SLS suspension.

Sorry I ever took it off. If you get the compressor it also helps with hooking up a trailer. Especially if you can get hold of a remote.

I have those bags in mine as well.

Dobinsons are in Salisbury, Leonnie. I’d go to them before I went to ARB. Just my opinion.

Can you measure the distance between the centre of axle and top of wheel arch on all 4?
Spring rate on the front should be in the region of 190-200 lb/inch constant rate for bull bar and winch, Bilstein 994 shocks work well.
    Rear around 300 lb/inch and Bilstein 995's.

This will give a subtle and comfortable ride.

Thats not enough on the front to support that weight. Bullbar and winch needs a minimum of 220lb otherwise the spring wont support the weight and maintain ride height over its life. All of those problems were found and then solved by the more involved manufacturers like ARB (who worked with Toombie to solve this) in the first few years as pretty much all Disco2 front springs kept sagging.

In terms of ride comfort, everybody thinks spring rates = ride comfort, but its actually in the bump valving of the shocks, so choose your shocks depending on what you want out of them.
    Cheers

I have all the bits, the aux battery is on the compressor shelf. I need to relocate that first.

That's your opinion, which of course, you're entitle to.

Hopefully you've taken into account that winches 20 years on are likely to be loaded with dyneema etc, 10-15 kg lighter than wire rope.

I know of at least 6 D2 TD5's running 200lb which have been running that set up that set up on the front for years, all are very happy with both the comfort and articulation, none have sagged.

Not just about bump valving either, rebound valving plays its part too.

I'm with Tins, in that maybe give ARB a miss regarding this.
