    Aftermarket steel expansion tanks

    Hi all,

What are your experiences with these? I can see that cap is different to a stock one and I wonder if this cheapy could cause problems?

Mine is still ok but at 25-year mark I would like to replace it, there a lot of cheap ones on ebay for around 70 bucks but I am not sure how good they would be..

    Thoughts?

    bmw

personally I like this idea ...replaces the original but with the added benefit of a water level sensor. But it does have to be wired in.

    Just a moment...

Just get a new OEM tank, it lasted this long so why change to an unknown.

Original LR tanks in D2 were good but I think the problem now is finding one of the same quality. I know an LR specialist that had dozens of new expansion tanks for D2 that had failed at low miles. He found that there were many so called OEM replacement LR parts that were not reliable since LR stopped stocking from their original suppliers. Don't know if that has changed but I doubt it. If and when mine fails I will likely go Alisport as Ian has done.

    Cheers

I bought an aluminium (eBay) one for my 300tdi defender, it's been fine, quality seems good and it's been a few years now.

The cap failed but was easily replaced as it was an off the shelf job.

I'd get the eBay one myself, but if it failed I'd just wear it and try another!

Make sure you get the right one, there are various with different hose configurations.
Allisport are conversant with the differing versions and all are optionally available with electronic level monitoring and or sight glass.

Speaking of which. Put new Penrite long life green coolant in today and it's idling nicely (top hose thermostat) at 87 to 88 degrees. I like. Cheers
