Do think it is a great idea! As noted early, do not think anyone thinks this is an easy job, some have gone alright but this is probably only 1 in 10, 20, or even worse. The other point is the one Simon made, they wont need to be done again in the next decade.
Hope your mechanic has not done D2 ball joints before, when I got the D2a done at the mechanics they swore they will not do D2's again and had only quoted me $400!
