    oHHHH mY gODDD

want to know why I like the D2, I will be up to about 25K by the time I finish my 'build' and it will be comfortable and capable with amenities, SLS and ACE and having the high spec one to begin, it had leather electric heated heated seat, rear air con and a few other luxuries like the harmon kardon system.

Any Land Rover as a base from after 1990 is going to be comfortable rolly and capable. Sure there are aspects of the design which maybe a compromise due to being done in England at the time of automotive and industrial turmoil but the basic engineering was sound, with the D2 better than rest I would suggest.

Have ummed and arrgghed (although some may disagree LOL) on modifications versus cost but happy to have a go with improvements, and then, I see this.

Copped my share of comments and ridicule from mates on the track and a few over what I might say were INCIDENTS OF NO CONCERN, this here below just makes me happy to say, I will never be a Toyota 79 disciple...

I had to watch that video twice to make sure it wasn't a p'ss take.... then googled this SKU:**SUP-79J7-FEDHI-DCB at Superior Engineering, $30k starting price, unbelievable!

Our D2 cost $20k all up after new suspension, tyres and bullbar. My Defender was $30k and I did do a $5k suspension mod, (all fitted by myself), but it now has 11 inch travel front and rear and 33s.

79s are over priced for what they are but seem to have become a 4wd fashion item, the more $$ spent the better. The few I have off roaded with (original leaf sprung rear) haven't been able to follow the lines taken by the defender.

I do have Superior Engineering remote res shocks in the front of the defender and they seem to working well, if Superior can sell these expensive kits to suckers to accessorise their first 4wd then more power to them. Also, our other is a Toyota but we don't off road the Camry....... much.

    Cheers Discofender

Thats a really cool setup and I think Superior is a benchmark aftermarket supplier, but its way too much money for a man like me! I loved their walk through talk on the 79.

    I thought that a dobson/bilstein lift on a D2 was around $3000 for a 2inch lift? am i wrong?

$30k is a lot of money. The suspension and ride must be pretty amazing. Its basically like investing in your house at those prices. The thing is in australia though, you can sell a 70+series toyota for +++ whatever you paid for, and probably someone will buy it?? Many people see it that way.

I think its mad, but that being said, if i had the money - who knows?

    Probably go a defender.

Also i really like honest videos like this - can put things into perspective nicely. Good on them for doing the vid and making the investment

The ARB BP-51 set up does a nice job on a 79,at way less than $10K.

If some want top of the range gear, let them do what they want, but seems over the top for me.

A top of the range Radflo set up on the Sons LC76 was less than $10K,and the ride is amazing.

As said,on a Tojo, there is a good chance you will get the money back when it is eventually sold.
I have seen some spend that sort of money and more setting up and modding a D2,with no chance of seeing the money spent ever again.

    Anyway,each to their own.

That $32k is in no way comparable to a 2" spring lift. You can have the same for the similar money in the 79 also.

There is a huge of engineered product in that setup, and all of it is top tier. Remote res, probably hyperflex front, rear coil conversion are probably the big ticket items, plus a million other minor parts that are needed to make it work.

And it’s a doddle to fit yourself. Prolly want longer brake lines, although mine doesn’t have them atm.

Very happy still with our D2 after nearly 14 years of fully unmodified ownership!

Camping In Beechworth this weekend and still I wouldn’t change much if I was building a new car from scratch!

Yes, SLS and ACE really makes this car a gem.
