This is doing my head in. Connected. 4WD light operates as it should, when the CDL engages and releases. Good. TC light come on, and doesn't extinguish until a complete shutdown ( Key to 0 position ). Problem for the RWC, but ok I guess. They probably won't bother with 4WD, especially as it didn't come with it. I can simply disconnect it again.
BUT, now the 4WD light comes on when either the brake pedal is pressed, or reverse is selected. OK, that's a little weird. But then, in the dark last night I noticed the reverse lights no longer work, and so I then checked the brake lights and nope, they're out too ( on my own, so hard to check ). Going out soon to look further, when my blood pressure settles down and I have hidden all my hammers.
Random query related. My car is one of those that came without the CDL lever but with the internals. PO had it retrofitted, by Ritters I believe. In the paperwork it details how, if LR, with or without CDL, was engaged all was normal, but if the key was turned off and on the HDC, ABS and TC would all be disabled until a complete shut down with high range selected. So, is this a retrofit, or do all D2s do this? Could this be what is making the TC light stay on?
I thought I knew a bit about the D2. Apparently not.
Thanks, James.
Not 100% sure where that gets me.
Yes, I thought mine was probably due to some mod or other carried out, possibly prior to delivery. Disabling those features has been handy on occasion, but not essential.
All was well until I reconnected the CDL wiring..... sigh..
So, I disconnected the 4WD switch and all the problems went away. Still don't know why fuse 25 blew.
My wiring diagrams and electrical libraries do not list this switch, or its connector, possibly because as far as LR were concerned it wan't fitted, or my stuff is NAS. Can someone tell me which system it connects to? TCU, BCU, ECU or NFI?
I will leave it disconnected for now, as having the TC light on is a RWC fail here, but I want the 4WD light to work.
FYI, Nanocom has reported no fault all the time I have been in here.
As sierrafery has tried to explain to you, you won’t find reference to a 4WD switch as it doesn’t exist. The Centre Differential Lock (CDL) switch though will be listed in the wiring diagrams and workshop manual.
As shack has also tried to explain to you, for this switch to work as you are wanting you need to change the SLABS ECU. On pre-03 models if this switch is activated it will put the SLABS ECU into a fault mode as activating the CDL was only to allow 2 wheel rolling road testing only.
Leave it disconnected until you have passed the RWC as this would be a modification.
Once passed, if you reconnect then it should light up the CDL warning light (plus a bunch of other warning lights), and will also disable the ETC when used - which means it should perform like a traditional 4WD with no traction control.
Calling it that was a TIC reference to Sierrafery's post, in case you missed it.
Thanks, but none of what you post explains the change in behaviour of a car I have owned for fifteen years. The light always worked as expected, as did the TC, ABS and HDC, and the warnings for those parts of the SLABS system did NOT activate until I deliberately took action to make them do so, i.e engage LR, switch car off, and then back on, as previously stated. The reverse would put things back to normal. It should be noted that not one of the xCUs fitted to the car has been changed at any time. The auto is the only thing that has, and it is connected to the original T/C. This change in behaviour only occurred from tidying up and securing the harness, and reconnecting the CDL switch which had a terminal fall off. This is a new behaviour and I want to fix it.
I already stated that I intend to leave it disconnected until the RWC is obtained, but thanks for agreeing with me.
