Thread: Wiper plenum...😱

Found the time to fit it late this arvo. Took about 30mins all up. actually 45mins for me, but takes me forever to find some tools to do stuff.

Fit it good, and as I said in my last couple of posts quality of the plastic is very high. Removing the old 'pieces' old one feels very flimsy where it is solid(ie. not cracked) Pics will show the pieces that I had left ....

To stop the leak into the heater, I used some rubber as a rim around the intake box. While at it, I also used some pool filter to stop leave litter getting down there too. Worked.

New one fitted fine. Wiper spindles don't line up 'perfectly' but line up enough to get it on and fitted tight. Once the plastic rivet are popped in and nothing else tightened it fit nice and tight and no real movement. Just enough side to side to get it lined up nicely
I don't remove the central bolt, just undo it enough to allow the plenum to come out and in. With the old one(and on my D2a), it only needs 5mm or so undoing. With the new plenum, I had to uindo it almost to it's last few threads to allow me to get it both onto the central bolt AND the underscreen clips located. My pass side A pillar is also half missing(see top) so it's not located right. So plenum had to be jimmied this way and that (sideways) to get a good fit between the two. So with just the rivets fitted and shifting sideways to get that fitment right, there is no flex with the plenum in/out(forward-backwards) from the screen .. fit is very nice.
Then of course do up the central bolt(not too much) and then the wiper spindle nuts and comes up a treat as below ....

(and of course I checked the drain holes for blockages too) all dust cleaned out and drains run well.)


I'm now tossing up the idea of getting their A pillars to fix them up too. At highway speeds I can hear the tapping of the pass side flapping about.
I already have two fibreglass types from the guy who sells them on ebay and various other places, but not 100% impressed by them. They're ok, just need some work. such as gluing in a rubber strip.
AHBooms pillar strips already have them fitted. I have to think about that one.

But I definitely recommend this plenum. Only caution is about shipping. Already noted in my recent reply #72. Not packed secure enough for those that don't feel confident about local transport mob will be gentle with it. Having worked in the industry for a good 30ish years, I've seen some very rough operators and packers .... otherwise two of them came to me just fine.

I just pulled the trigger on one. Will report progress.

Arthur, thanks heaps for your input on this. I am sure that there will be many D2 owners that will benefit from this.

If they're ABS I'm curious how they'll holdup over time, did order one all the same will just give it a coat of paint.

For a factory rear bumper cover replica in fibreglass they were charging USD$1895 (AU$2935) plus EUR$280 (AU$490)

Needless to say, my cracked plastic bumper is still on. I potentially may end up reinstalling my metal rear bar one day.

It's kinda impressive that you can get a good steel rear bar cheaper

I ripped my rear plastic bumper off at about year 10 of ownership and bought a very well priced steel one from a fella who made them in Brisbane. Apart from the practicality I do prefer the look of the steel one. Funnily enough one of my son's badly damaged his a couple of weeks ago at the Glasshouse Mountains. The sun really wasn't kind to the plastics. Cheers

Yes, I built it years ago. Its a great bar, but I don't slap around in ruts like I used to. With a more touring setup now, I just needed to keep the weight out of it. I've put the plastic bar back on, but that is also cracking up pretty well now. I'll have to bite the bullet and mod the steel bar to refit some lights and then reinstall it.
