Anecdotally they work well but have not seen empirical evidence as to the effectiveness.
Did read an article sometime ago as to the issue of where they come on (how much volume of water / methanol would you need for a day of slow 4WDriving, let alone a week) and possible injection issues etc.
Misting the radiator / FMIC is another option which would I think be more reliable as it is more simplistic, just look at the those fans with the misting rings around them, just a pump pushing water through a misting chain - Nylex 24m Premium Misting System Kit - Bunnings Australia - this would have to be cut down of course!!!

effectively, the upper reach is the turbo outlet and the lower the IAT.

ARE Cooling
Difficult to see the figures.Good to see a real time graph though.It is chipped which i presume would push up the temps.
It would be good to compare that to a more modern engine such as a Disco 4,or even a Disco 2a with the bigger intercooler.
It certainly seems to run a lot hotter than the 200,with top mount.But then again,it is big and lazy,so that probably helps.
Have been dabbling with the idea as to fitting a heat exchanger to the rear of the D2 and allowing the blowing of the air conditioner to be the 'cooling medium'.
This is the rear air con unit that sits in the rear assembly of the D2 which is a little larger than anticipated which sort of supports this idea as the actual airflow using the standard system would not extreme but remember this is hyper cooled air. There are also three fan speeds which can be used before the chill of the AC is added but I doubt this would suffice solely.

Please remember at this time for me it is a thought bubble, an interesting idea to research as to how it could be done. So using the rear air con unit, basically making an airbox to run back over the AC unit with small radiator installed within would probably be able to be done - this paint drawing is my crayon attempt to depict it!!!

This effectively is a water bath around the air con matrix without external fans etc. Rather simple idea of course and I appreciate that the Patent they have for their system controls the water flow through the matrix for max cooling potential.
As the D2 already has some vital components for this in the ENGINE BAY, namely AC lines with Tee outlets for the rear, one difficult aspect is completely taken care of.
There is the caveat of course that this is expensive at a complete cost of around $3K.
How effective can it be is visually demonstrated with a picture of a top mounted water to air intercooler in a WRX

How difficult would it be to mount the D2 rear matrix into a water box, either at the back or in the engine bay and run just a pump and lines to a WTAIC. Sure difficult to a degree, but good welding and brazing skills and the quality and size of the WTAIC could be suitably reduced - there are US WTAIC with the correct cores around $160US - Air/Water IC
Think some peeps with an eye on ultimate HP gains for a TD5 should be salivating icicles at the moment!
There is a lot of prior art as to the chillers, the majority of the Patent is that they are able to control the flow of AC coolant to both or to one only.

Nothing to stop you copying the idea if you don't try to sell it. Whether the gains outweigh the energy required remains to be seen.
My reading of it, with coffees is that they are able to switch off the car AC for full on cooling, the prior art would mean that the actual water bath is not defendable and if utilized into a D2's system, certainly the ability is to switch it off and run independently of the front AC would be exactly what they have patented.
Lawyers would make money off the case.
Not sure how much extra drain running the rear AC is on the system, there are only 200grams extra for the rear AC, does the circuit running this extra grammage and a water pump (and based on the info within the vids etc) use up to the release of 5-7+% of power gain if this system is capable of releasing this amount of power?

Know I run with the AC on all the time but the main reason I first looked at WTAIC was free the radiator up of the heater in front of it, that is the FMIC.
Your main aim appears to be to get rid of the intercooler from in front of the radiator.
Regardless of the method you still have to get rid of the heat.
If you use the AC to cool the intercooler, then that heat is being dumped from the AC condenser, in front of the radiator.
If you use water to air intercooling, then you need a radiator for the cooling water, this would normally, but not necessarily be in front of the radiator.
